Since becoming a full-time blogger several months ago I’ve really made a point to start sticking to a morning routine. I got the idea from a couple of gals I follow on Instagram who posts on their stories what their morning routine is, and I instantly fell in love with the idea!
Having a morning routine as a blogger helps me stay more on track, focus on my goals and agenda for the day, and helps spark conversation with my audience!
While it’s no Kim K routine, (I’m pretty sure she starts the day bathing in gold? Just a thought.) Below is my morning routine as a blogger.
Waking up 7:30 a.m.
At one point in my life, I was waking up at 4 a.m. to go to work in the newsroom. It was beneficial for the job, but in no way was I going to stick to that time when I went full-time blogging.
I find that waking up around 7:30 a.m. works best for my body and my schedule. I also help take my boyfriend to work in the morning, so that helps us spend a little time together in the morning before he leaves.
Right as I wake up I usually briefly check my phone to see if there is anything that needs immediate attention but don’t start to get emails and social until a bit later.
Gym time 8:30-9:30 a.m.
I made a conscious effort to start my blogging morning routine with the gym. For me, I just feel better and helps me get in my stretches for my neck and back that my physical therapist gave me.
Usually, I spend about an hour at the gym, I start each session with 20 minutes of cardio and then work on certain muscle groups (it various each day). But if my body is telling me to rest one day I don’t push it.
Breakfast + getting ready 9:30-10:30 a.m.
After the gym I come home, shower, and then make some breakfast before I start getting ready for the day. I a lot an hour or so for this because I find it important to take care of yourself!
Breakfast usually includes some kind of protein + smoothie, but yes there are definitely days that I grab a bowl of cereal as well. Oh and definitely coffee of some sort.
I like to spend time getting ready for the day. Getting ready also makes me feel more productive and ready to take on the day! During this time I will usually throw on a podcast (some of my favorites are listed here).
Begin work emails + social 11 a.m- 2 p.m.
Crazy as it may seem but I don’t actually start diving into my emails and socials until 11 a.m. I will casually check Instagram here and there as I’m getting ready and making breakfast. But I don’t start diving into my workload until 11.
I start by writing out in my planner everything I need to do for the day. From content to doctor appointment calls, I write it all down. From there I will check my Pinterest and blog, and check stats and see what needs to be scheduled for the next day or two.
I will then bounce back and forth with emails. This usually entails writing and following up with brands and companies. I try not to answer “work” related emails on the weekend (boundaries!)
Usually I a lot a certain amount of time between emails and Pinterest scheduling to edit and get ready to post on Instagram. I tend to spend more time on Monday editing and scheduling posts as it gives me an idea of how to layout my Instagram.
As the afternoon creeps up (around 2 p.m.) I take a break from what I am doing and go do something completely different! Some days I go to a coffee shop, others I lay out by the pool. I just do something that isn’t staring down at my computer.
So there you have it! My morning routine as a blogger, while it does tend to dip down into the afternoon this gives a pretty good outline of how I start my day!
