How microblading helped me with my anxiety

How microblading helped me with my anxiety: and how it can help you

Ever since I was a little girl I have struggled with anxiety, and it came in various situations. Sometimes I couldn’t be in large crowds, other times I couldn’t be alone. I would have panic attacks and couldn’t sit still, or I would crawl up in a ball and sit cold for hours… It’s something I have dealt with, still dealing with, and am able to manage better.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America: Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.

I’m not alone, you are not alone, there are help and ways to help manage and treat anxious behavior. No matter what time of anxiety you are dealing with.

So how does this tie into microblading

One type of anxiety disorder I have dealt with is trichotillomania, where I have this compulsion to pick out my eyebrows and eyelashes during moments of stress. While I have been able to manage it, my eyebrows stopped growing after a while (luckily my eyelashes are still alive!) I have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on makeup products to help me feel the best I can with makeup-filled eyebrows. But my anxiety would eat me even more because I knew I couldn’t stop picking at my eyebrows, so it was this constant vicious cycle.

I was so thankful when I found Ashley over at Browbossmicroblading, who helped me give life back to my eyebrows!

The process

So what is microblading? It’s a form of semi-permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. (Thanks Google!)

I had gotten a few tattoos previous to my session with Ashley, but I didn’t know what to expect when I went in for my appointment. Ashley made it so easy and painless though, she talked me through the whole process and explained how to keep up with my new “brows” after the appointment.

She started by sanitizing my brows and putting some numbing gel on, at first I didn’t think the gel was going to do anything because it didn’t tingle – but sure enough, I didn’t feel a thing! She then proceeded to feather in my new “brows” with a tool used for this kind of procedure, contrary to popular belief it wasn’t a little knife. From there she added little strokes that looked like natural brows.

The whole process took a little over an hour, and I had to hold back tears when I saw the final results because it looked so natural, and I no longer saw the after-effects of an anxiety disorder.

Why could this help someone with anxiety

When you are able to erase something negative and replace it with something positive amazing things happen. For me being able to “fill in” what was taken out by my anxiety gave me hope and confidence that my anxiety isn’t me. Like other forms of tattoos, this semi-permanent one gave me a reminder I am more than my disorder. It has also made it so I can’t pick at anything (because technically it’s a tattoo), and now I am more conscious when I feel the need to pick at something. (I have found chewing gum, and having something to fidget with helps a lot!)

So thank you to Ashley at Browbossmicroblading for helping me regain my newfound confidence while also helping me replace the negative impact with something positive!

Let me know what has helped you with anxiety if you deal with it 🙂

Thank you for writing on this topic and opening up! I’m sure it may have been difficult to begin writing about, but it will be helpful. You did a great job of describing microblading and you look amazing! Been thinking about doing it, but a little nervous. I am blonde and have to fill in my eyebrows all the time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read. I love hearing when people can relate and how it’s helped them! It’s honestly the best decision, it made a huge difference for me. I would recommend it!
