How to make money on Instagram, even in 2018 with the constant algorithm changes it is possible to make money with Instagram!

Only within the last year have I changed my Instagram profile to “influencer” status and make it monetizable for brands. Yes, I got into the game late with all the algorithm changes. But with the right niche, content, and email marketing you too can jump on the bandwagon!

So how do you make money on Instagram?

The big way to make money on Instagram is through paid promotional posts. That means that a brand or company will reach out to you and give you x amount of dollars for a post on your Instagram page about their product or company. That is the main channel on how to make money on Instagram.

Other factors on how to make money on Instagram include:

Choosing your “niche”

You MUST have a niche that is monetizable. Brands aren’t looking for random posts and crazy edits. For example, I have a lifestyle-fashion niche that incorporates fashion, fitness, beauty, and occasional everyday items. Brands within those niches will reach out to me via email/DM’s or vice versa (yes you can reach out to brands hold tight) and from there we are able to collab on terms of the promotion.

Cohesive feed

Having consistency in editing is HUGE for brands. As mentioned above, crazy editing is a thing of the past if you want to look professional and monetizable. Creating a feed that looks aesthetically pleasing is a must on how to make money on Instagram.

Marketing skills

While it can be important to some brands/companies to have a “large” following if you know how to market yourself correctly anything is possible! Marketing yourself professionally is a huge way of how to make money on Instagram. This is everything from your profile picture, bio, and how you construct interactions with brands (as mentioned before you can reach out to brands).

Tips to boost your marketing skills
  1. Have a clean shot of you or your brand name as your profile picture on Instagram
  2. Clearly, state who you are and what you offer in your bio (i.e lifestyle influencer specializing in fashion, food, travel etc..)
  3. Have a professional email to communicate with brands (no more ilovepuppiesandchocolate@yahoo.com)
  4. Have a template to follow when communicating with brands
    1. Introduce yourself
    2. Give a brief of what you do and what you have to offer
    3. How will working with you give the brand/company a return on investment
    4. How much your charge for each service
    5. Attach your media kit with your stats
    6. Closing remarks

Networking

As time has gone on I have gotten more collabs simply by networking with the right people (see how to build your network in 3 easy steps). Don’t ever discredit the power of networking and word of mouth. Follow people/brands you would like to network with. Comment, like, and interact with their posts/stories and give meaningful feedback when asked. And ALWAYS ALWAYS be kind in your interactions! Even if people/brands are rude to you or completely “discredit” you, always end with a kind statement or thank you.

Build relationships with brands

This also goes hand-in-hand with networking, building a relationship with a brand can help you score paid promotions (or multiple ones!) Let a brand/company know that you enjoy them and interact with their pages. I know more than once I have done this with a brand or company with no intention of doing a paid collab with them, and then they will reach out on their own simply because of the relationship I started to create with them.

Also don’t be afraid to reach out to brands or companies you want to work with! You never know where a little courage can take you.

Just be nice

I’m not kidding when I say kindness goes a long way. Never think you are “too good” to interact with someone or a brand. Even if you aren’t interested, politely tell them that currently, you aren’t interested but you will keep them in mind for the future. Word travels fast and if someone or a brand company has a not so pleasant interaction with you, that can hurt you in the future.

These are tips, tricks, and methods I have used on how to make money on Instagram. Let me know below and how they work for you and what your next big “promo” is. As always, happy writing!

xx
